The hidden treasures of Slovenia: a hike through picturesque landscapes

The mountains are calling! And for those who want to answer the call, there is hardly a better place than the picturesque landscapes of Slovenia. Off the beaten track and far from the well-known hotspots, this country offers some of the most impressive natural beauty in Europe.

The picturesque Logarska Valley

Let's start our journey in Logarska Valley, a picturesque mountain valley accessible via a toll road. Even if you don't plan to climb any of the surrounding mountain peaks, a visit to this valley is an absolute must. At the end of the valley, a spectacular waterfall, the Slap Rinka, awaits visitors. With an impressive drop of 90 meters, this waterfall offers an unforgettable natural spectacle. The spray that splashes into your face and the fine curtain of water that falls in front of you allows you to feel the power of nature up close.

Velika Planina: A picture book in reality

After leaving the valley, the path leads over a mountain ridge to Velika Planina. This place is like something out of a picture book. There are small wooden huts scattered everywhere and cows grazing peacefully in between. Some of these huts are even several centuries old and have been lovingly converted into comfortable accommodation.

A look into one of these huts reveals how the shepherds once lived here with their animals. The animals found protection from predators such as wolves and bears in the anteroom, while the shepherd slept and cooked in a small room in the middle of the hut. Although this way of life is viewed as idyllic today, it was certainly also marked by many hardships.

Traditional delicacies

But it's not just the landscape and architecture that are impressive. The Velika Planina also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine. The traditional Trnič is still made here, a sour cheese that is unique in taste and consistency. A visit to one of the local families offers the opportunity to taste this cheese and learn more about how it is made.

A perfect ending by the lake

At the end of this wonderful trip we go to a lake in Bohinj. Surrounded by mountains and glistening in the sun, this lake offers the perfect place to reflect on the day's experiences and fully enjoy the beauty of nature.

Slovenia may still be an insider tip for many, but for everyone who appreciates the beauty of the mountains and the tranquility of nature, it is an absolute paradise. It is a country that continues to surprise and delight with its hidden treasures and untouched nature.
