Ridge hike in the Ammergau Alps: An adventure on the Sonnenberggrat

Starting point: Oberammergau

Oberammergau, a picturesque village in the Ammergau Alps, is known for its colorfully painted house facades that tell entire stories. But the real adventure begins just outside the village, at the parking lot for the Kolben chairlift. Here you can decide whether you want to overcome the first few meters of altitude with the cable car or start the ascent on foot.

The path to the Pürschlinghaus

After a relaxed ride on the cable car, where you can get a first look at the impressive landscape, the actual climb begins. The path leads through dense forests, past steep rock faces and always offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. After about an hour and a half you reach the Pürschlinghaus, a cozy hut that invites you to take a break.

The Sonnenberggrat: A path for experienced people

From the Pürschlinghaus we continue towards Sonnenberggrat. This section of the hike is particularly demanding and requires surefootedness and a head for heights. The narrow path winds along steep slopes, secured with wire ropes, and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

The summit: A 360 degree panorama

After crossing the Sonnenberggrat, you finally reach the summit of the Sonnenberg. From here you have a 360 degree view of the entire mountain world, from the Zugspitze to the Alpspitze to the Karwendel Mountains. An unforgettable experience that more than makes up for the effort of the climb.

Return to Oberammergau

After a long rest at the summit, we head back downhill towards Oberammergau. The descent again offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the impressive landscape of the Ammergau Alps and end the day in nature.
