The fascinating hike to the Zugspitze via the Stopselzieh via ferrata
The mountains are calling! And what could be better than exploring the majestic beauty of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain? This hike is not only a physical challenge, but also an unforgettable experience for the senses.
The beginning of the adventure
The journey begins at the valley station of the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn. From here follow the signs to the Wiener Neustätter Hütte. After a short while the path branches off and leads over a wide gravel field. This field serves as preparation for the upcoming hike to the Wiener Neustätter Hütte. The path winds up and you soon reach the Georg Jägersteig.
The path to the via ferrata
The Georg Jägersteig is an impressive path that runs along a mountain ridge. Secured areas ensure that even less experienced hikers can progress safely. Wooden footbridges offer variety on the steep and partially exposed path. But the real highlight of this hike is the Stopselzieh via ferrata. Before you reach this, however, it is worth taking a short break in the Berlin Hütte, which is located at 2209 meters.
The Stopselzieh via ferrata
The actual climb begins after the Berlin Hütte resting place. A scree field leads to the snow cirque, and from there you go up to the via ferrata. The via ferrata itself is secured with steel cables, and steel stairs occasionally help with the climb. A special place on this via ferrata is a small tunnel that leads through a washed-out gully. This tunnel is the reason for the name “Stopselzieh”.
Safety first
Although many people can do the via ferrata without additional safety equipment, it is always advisable to wear a helmet. Rockfalls can occur at any time in this terrain and a helmet provides the necessary protection. For less experienced climbers, a climbing harness can also be helpful.
The peak of emotions
After the strenuous climb you finally reach the Austrian border marker. From here it is only a few minutes to the summit of the Zugspitze. The sight of the summit cross and the breathtaking panoramic view are the reward for the effort of the climb. It's a moment of triumph and joy that won't soon be forgotten.
The hike to the Zugspitze via the Stopselzieh via ferrata is an unforgettable experience. The combination of physical challenge and breathtaking nature makes this tour a highlight for every mountain lover.
