The idyllic hike to the Großer Riesenkopf: A mountain jewel in Bavaria

The mountains are calling! And there is hardly a better place to experience the beauty of nature than the Bavarian Alps. One of the most impressive hikes you can undertake in this region leads to the Großer Riesenkopf.

Starting point of the hike

The journey begins at the hiking car park in Flintsbach. From here you have a first view of the Unter Falkenstein castle ruins. The Great Giant's Head, today's destination, rises into the sky at a height of 1337 meters and is part of the eastern Mangfall Mountains.

The path to the summit

The beginning of the hike leads through a dense forest path. The signs are clear and guide hikers safely towards the summit. As you climb the mountain you pass picturesque old farms. A sign of spring are the blooming pussy willows and the first flowers sprouting on the riverbank. Nature begins to bloom and gives the landscape a fresh green.

Breathtaking views

After a while, hikers are presented with a spectacular view. The snow-capped peaks in the distance, the lush green of the meadows and forests and the clear mountain air are simply incomparable. About an hour and a quarter after the start of the hike you reach a large meadow that is home to the Hohe Asten mountain inn. This place is very popular with hikers and offers a perfect opportunity to rest and admire the surrounding mountains.

The last climb

The path to the summit of the Großer Riesenkopf is clearly signposted. It takes about 50 minutes to reach the summit. On the way there you pass some snowfields and rustic huts. The last section of the hike is particularly challenging as it leads steeply through the forest. But the effort is worth it! Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama.

The summit experience

From the summit plateau you have a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. The Wendelstein is right in front of you, and in the distance you can see the Wilder Kaiser. It is a place of peace and reflection where you can fully enjoy the beauty of nature.

The hike to the Großer Riesenkopf is an unforgettable experience. Not only does it offer physical challenges, but also the opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Bavarian Alps. It's a trip you won't soon forget.
